With U.S.-Cuba relations resuming after half a century, a drama series set on the island nation is in the works. Stone Village TV said today that it will produce Cuba, about an international real estate mogul who returns with his family to the place of his childhood to restore a hotel in hope of capitalizing on Cuba’s emerging tourism business. Rob Cohen will direct the pilot and executive produce.

Filmed on location in Havana and elsewhere on the island, Cuba will explore the relationship of a wealthy business family immersing itself in Cuban society and how the cultures clash, blend and ultimately learn from each other. Location scouting and casting will begin in September, with production set to start in the fall.

Scott Steindorff (Jane Got A Gun, Las Vegas) created the 12-episode series, and Stone Village is in talks with Rob Weiss (Entourage) to be co-showrunner with him. Dylan Russell also in an EP. Stone Village partnered with Quebec-based Facet 4 to distribute the series and co-finance with investment firm Source Rock Partners.

“I’m thrilled to explore a rich culture and a story of a father going home to his roots to teach his family about their heritage,” Steindorff said. “I have had the opportunity to film in places like Brazil, Colombia and Las Vegas when no one from Hollywood was filming there and love the process of helping start new film communities.”
